Member Spotlight: Grayson
Meet Grayson. Grayson started with Dundee Scottish in 2015 at the age of 13. “I have been playing drums ever since I could walk but started with Highland music when I was 8 years old at the Chicago Academy of Pipes and Drums at the Irish American Heritage Center.”
In solo competitions thus far, Grayson has taken Champion Supreme in Bass (both Novice and Intermediate), Champion Supreme in Group Tenor and Champion Supreme in Novice Tenor. Grayson also played with Midlothian Scottish Pipe Band and competed in Scotland in 2019.
Why does Grayson play with Dundee Scottish? “Because it’s like a family, we take care of each other, we have a lot of fun, and we make beautiful and precise music in the process. Being in band is amazing and Dundee honestly saved my life when I was at my lowest. I would say that going to the Worlds with Midlo was one of the highlights of my Highland music experience so far, but so was the day I joined Dundee, because it has been not just music but also the love and acceptance that I needed.”
Band has had a positive influence on Grayson’s life, and the feeling from the band is mutual. Grayson has a fun, young heart, an old soul and a lot of charisma, and the band is lucky to have them.
Grayson is an accomplished drummer on both tenor and bass and teaches tenor to our beginning drum students.
